Round Up 5 November2011

CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 2.11.2011
An impressive display of attacking football saw Marine Reserves prove to be too strong for hosts Christleton when they ran out 3-0 winners on Saturday. The visitors missed a host of chances including a penalty before a 2nd half double from Karl Berquist added to a John Cross effort gave 4th placed Marine 3 well deserved points. Leaders Ashville enjoyed a 5-2 success at Blacon YC as Paul Casey led the way with a brace. Craig Griffiths, Chris Barrow and Josh Dures also found the target with Scott Broadbent and Luke Hughes replying for the hosts. Maghull returned to winning ways when 2 goal men Lee Healey and Ian Joinson spearheaded a 5-1 triumph at Upton AA. Stuart Denham was the home marksman while Danny Dillon completed the tally for Maghull who remain 6 points behind Ashville with 2 games in hand. Newton lie third after getting the better of 5th placed Ellesmere Port who had Tommy Charters netting a consolation as Anthony Felton, Joe McCann and James Lundon posted in their opponent’s 3-1 success. Early 2nd half goals spurred West Kirby to a 4-2 win at Vauxhall Motors Reserves after the sides had been locked at 1-1 at the break. John Hughes, 2, Jack Ford and Tom Hartley did the damage for the visitors with Craig Cairns and Carl Smyth replying for The Motormen. Cammell Laird Reserves [Peter Charles, John Strange] continue to rise up the table after their 2-1 defeat of home side Willaston [Colin Cunliffe] and Chester Nomads became the only top flight Chester side to gain reward when Ed Moss and Steve Cunningham were responsible for the 2-0 victory over Southport Trinity.
Division 2 leaders Beb Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at neighbouring Bronze Social with Steve Egan again netting for Bronze and Lloyd Ithell doing likewise for Athletic. In the only other Division 2 encounter New Brighton [Tom Carroll, Mike McGrath, Ben Verdin] just got the better of battling Richmond Raith Rovers [Jay Harkness, Robert Madine] by the odd goal in 5. Improving Hale Reserves won the contest of the Division 3 basement boys as Lawrence Southart, Jay Standish and Dale Thompson netted against goalless Neston Nomads while Phil Duncan took the plaudits as his hat trick was the basis of Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves 4-3 win over Belfry. In the Youth Division REMYCA secured a welcome 3 points as a Michael Farrell double and an Anthony Nugent strike counted in the 3-1 defeat of Widnes Youth and Patrick Stanton and Francis Smith hit doubles in Finn Harps thrilling 6-4 victory at Runcorn Linnets.
Hale [Brad Williams, Sean Wright, Peter Doran] edged South Sefton Borough out of the Liverpool FA Challenge cup thanks to a 3-2 success and a penalty from Marshalls’ James Nisen was just enough to see off a battling display from 3rd Division South Liverpool but Mossley Hill Athletic bowed out after losing 2-0 to Old Xaverians.
Wirral Amateur Cup winners for the past 2 seasons West Kirby Reserves [Graham Edge] lost interest in this seasons competition when Liam Jameson and Jack Horrocks earned New Brighton Reserves a semi final place courtesy of a 2-1 success and Ashville Reserves joined them after a penalty shoot out victory at Manor Athletic. A solitary Jonathon Li strike was enough to see Heswall Reserves through at the expense of Mersey Royal while a treble from Maghull Reserves hot shot Baqor Parvas steered his side to a 6-1 verdict over Mallaby.
The top two sides in the Youth Division met in the Liverpool FA Youth Cup and after Maghull [Adam Wilkinson,2,] and South Liverpool [Sharif Yusuf,2] had cancelled each other out it was Maghull who were to progress following the resultant penalty shoot-out. Connor McCarthy starred with a hat trick and Scott Wright weighed in with a brace as Allerton marched through to round 3 with a 7-1 mauling of Woolton Seniors.
