CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L. MATCH ROUND UP W/E 1.9.12

Division 1 leaders Heswall boast the only 100% record in all 3 Divisions after they defeated Chester Nomads 2-0 on Saturday. Goals from Mat Johnson and Rob Ablewhite secured the victory which came on the back of Wednesday’s 1-0 success at Vauxhall Motors Reserves when a Robbie Foulkes strike was the difference between the sides. Newton lie in 2nd place as a result of their 2-1 win at Southport Trinity [Dan Garbett]. Gerard King and Jerome McIntyre were on target for Newton while King, 2, and Jamie Hannah registered in the midweek 3-1 verdict over West Kirby [Stu Jackson]. Third placed Vauxhall Motors Reserves returned to winning ways with Andy Winslade a 2 goal man as they overcame Blacon YC [Kev Garland] 2-1. Earlier in the week, Blacon’s Matty Cross bagged a brace in his side’s odd goal in 5 win over local rivals Chester Nomads. Plenty of goals at Marine Reserves [Karl Burquist, 2, Paul Pearson, Phil Ferguson, John Connolly] who saw off Ashville [Lee Healey, Paul Howell, Tommy Carroll] 5-3, while on Wednesday Healey along with Ash Robinson had spearheaded Ashville’s 2-1 defeat of Cammell Laird Reserves [Jon Atkinson]. Two sides got off the mark at the weekend with Chris Nichol hitting the game’s only goal for Ellesmere Port at Christleton while Nathan Mapletoft,3, Simon Andrews,2 and Sam Stallwood netted for Upton AA as they trounced Hale [Spencer Douglas, Sam Calland] 6-2 who drop to the bottom of the table as a result. Just above them are Mossley Hill Athletic who gained their 2nd point of the campaign as Yusuf Malik, Ryan Powell and Kurt Sherlock obliged in the 3-3 draw with Cammell Laird Reserves who replied through Jonathon Strange, Craig Cairns and Jon Paul Wheadon. On Saturday West Kirby recovered from their midweek defeat when Mike McGraa and Stewart Jackson posted as they edged out Maghull [John McGuire] 2-1.
Seeking successive promotions, South Liverpool head Division 2 after Cameron Alton starred with a 4 goal haul which was added to by Neil Best in the 5-2 rout of Capenhurst Villa [Iain Forster, 2]. In midweek South dropped their 1st points as they and 2nd placed Heswall Reserves blanked each other out at Gayton Park and Heswall enjoyed a 3-2 success on Saturday against promotion hopefuls, Beb Athletic. Helsby got back into victory mode as Ian Cox hit a treble in a 5-1 win over Mersey Royal who gained their 1st point of the season a few days earlier when a last minute headed goal secured a 3-3 draw with Richmond Raith Rovers. The Richmond defence again conceded 3 at the weekend only to net 5 times themselves against Willaston. Chris Nation,4, and Mike McGinn,2, led the way as Maghull Reserves registered the day’s top total as they over ran struggling West Kirby Reserves 8-1. Mallaby continue to impress and with John Costello on the mark in both games, followed up Tuesday’s 5-2 triumph at Ashville Reserves by easing to a 3-0 home win over Mossley Hill Reserves. Andy Kingam bagged a brace as Manor Athletic overcame West Kirby Reserves 4-2 in midweek but Athletic had to settle for a point after an entertaining 3-3 draw with Prescot Cable Reserves on Saturday.
Redgate Rovers [David Halsall, Craig Blackwell, Youssef Beneserous] made it 4 wins from as many games on Tuesday by getting the better of Merseyside Police 4-2, but slumped to a surprise 4-1 defeat at the weekend against Manor Athletic Reserves whose marksmen were Anthony McCarthy, 2, Dominic Crossley and Kieron Hughes. This allowed South Liverpool Reserves, 4-1 victors over Capenhurst Villa Reserves, to take over at the top of Division 3. Gateacre take 3rd spot thanks to a 3-1 verdict over Beb Athletic Reserves but at the other end of the table Ellesmere Port Reserves and Upton AA Reserves are still waiting to get off the mark. The Youth Division got under way on Saturday when Bootle [Robert Rowlands, Grant Pruden] recorded a 2-1 success over Custys [Sam Smith] and Vauxhall Motors [Joshua Quarless, Jack Roberts] defeated Gateacre 2-0.
