Josh hands the cup to Juniors after draw

UNDER 10 LEAGUE CUP FINAL: A thrilling final saw Stratton Juniors A come out victorious after a penalties win over Shaw.

Josh Reynolds saved from Shaw's Dale Richards to give Stratton victory.

Neither side managed to score during normal and extra time as both sides defended valiantly in an end-to-end match.

Joe Broadbank hit wide from 20 yards for Stratton, whose rugged defending limited their opponents to only a few long-range efforts two sweetly struck left-footed shots from Matty Jones being just off target while Mason Thompson blasted over from just outside the box.

A handball in the box gifted Shaw a penalty two minutes before the break.

Jones hit the post with his effort before tapping in the rebound, but as neither a teammate or an opponent had touched the ball, the goal was disallowed.

In first-half stoppage time Jack Doult struck from 20 yards but Shaw keeper Harrison Painter made a fine reaction save with his feet .

The second half was much the same with both sides attacking in numbers and defending well.

A Jones volley forced a brilliant diving save from Reynolds six minutes in after a Jack Allan cross.

Four minutes later Painter was forced to parry a long-range Tom Titcombe effort after a flick from Broadbank had set him free.

Shaw nearly grabbed the winner when a curling corner from Thompson was met with a Allan header but the forward saw his effort come back out off the bar.

Shaw had the best chance during extra time when Allan shot on the turn from 15 yards but the ball was cleared off the line.

Each side dispatched all of their first five spot kicks to send the game into sudden death.

Stratton's Titcombe saw his effort go in off the bar with his side's sixth before Reynolds saved from Richards to give Stratton victory.
