A hat trick by Martin Mixture ensured that Writtle Manor completed a League and Cup double after they defeated Ferrers Athletic F.C. 3-0 in Saturday's division one League Cup Final played at Witham Town F.C.

Writtle Manor F.C. lifted the Division One League Cup final following a 3-0 victory over Ferrers Athletic F.C.

The game was originally scheduled for 28th April but the weather caused that game to be postponed and we were fortunate to get the game on Saturday after another week of heavy rain. Credit to the Witham Town groundsmen despite some damp patches the game was given the go ahead.

Writtle had already secured the League trophy and were embarking on a Cup and League double as they took on Ferrers Athletic F.C. this being Ferrers last game together as they had already served notice of their intention to withdraw at the end of the season.

Within the opening 5 minutes Writtle Manor's Martin Mixture served notice that he was going to be a danger man when he latched on to a loose ball rounded the Ferrers keeper but found the side netting. Adam King from Ferrers then went close before Mixture opened the scoring on 13 minutes for Manor.

Shaun Crockford laid a perfect through ball into Mixture's path, this time having rounded the keeper he tapped the ball into the empty net.

For the next 30 minutes Ferrers dominated. Paul Jones found the side netting, and he was then denied by an Assistant Referee's flag as he found the net only to be ruled off side

Just before the end of the half a defensive error gave Mixture the chance to double Manor's advantage but he blazed over with only the keeper to bear and then he saw a further effort well saved by by Danny Bench in the Ferrers goal

Within the opening minutes of the second half the dangerous Mixture headed over but had signalled his intent that he was hungry for more.

A handball on the edge of the box offered Ferrers the chance of an equaliser but the resultant free kick was deflected wide

On 66 minutes Writtle Manor and Martin Mixture added the crucial second again latching on to a through ball rounding the Ferrers keeper and a duplicate of his first tapping into an empty net.

That knocked the stuffing out of Ferrers and the game became a scrappy affair. With the Referee signalling 5 mionutes of added time this proved sufficient time for Mixture to score his hat trick and Manor's third.
